What Can You Do?

  • Ask the EPA not to delay the methane rule. https://sierra.secure.force.com/actions/National?actionId=AR0082793
  • Ask your mayor to sign on to support for 100% renewable energy. https://sierra.secure.force.com/actions/National?actionId=AR0076475
  • Brainstorm about clean air projects that can be financed using the $200 million Volkswagen settlement that will become available to Texas.
    • Dallas Meeting: July 25 https://www.eventbrite.com/e/breathable-cities-using-vw-funding-to-improve-air-in-dfw-dallas-event-tickets-35937249280
    • Ft. Worth Meeting: July 26 https://www.eventbrite.com/e/breathable-cities-using-vw-funding-to-improve-air-in-dfw-ft-worth-event-tickets-35937923296
  • Think about your electrical usage. You might:
    • visit North Texas Renewable Energy Group this Saturday and learn about led lighting's impact? http://www.ntreg.org/events.shtml
  • Think about your driving habits. You might:
    • bike more?
    • ride the bus or train?
    • carpool?
    • get a TERP grant to improve your or your company's vehicle or equipment? https://www.tceq.texas.gov/airquality/terp
    • tune your car and inflate your tires?
    • make your next car an ev?
  • Think about your workplace. Efficient energy use benefits the bottom line as well as the environment.
  • Prepare for the Texas Legislature's Special Session. We expect to see a version of SB744 (Kolkhurst) intended to prevent cities from regulating what property owners do with trees (Trees clean the air!) on private land, and possibly other attacks on local control. https://gov.texas.gov/news/post/governor-abbott-announces-special-session
  • Ask your U.S. representative to vote against HR 3053, which attempts to legalize the creation of temporary nuclear waste collection sites (like the ones proposed by WCS that we just succeeded in defeating in west Texas). Such sites create issues of unsafe transportation of large amounts of nuclear materials through major cities. http://www.beyondnuclear.org/home/2017/6/27/50-group-environmental-coalition-urges-rejection-of-hr-3053.html
